Body Architecture?
June 25th, 2008
What is Body Architecture? It’s our way of describing the ingenious system of bones, muscles, and connective tissue that allows us to move gracefully, efficiently, and with good posture. Pilates enhances these structures: strengthening using resistance, creating lean muscle mass, and improving coordination, balance, and flexibility. Isn’t it time to renovate your Body Architecture? Come learn about your body as you tune it up.

Thanks for your interest in exercise options at Pilates Virginia, LLC.
In addition to group mat classes, we teach private and semiprivate (2 people) lessons in mat and/or on the apparatus: Reformer, Cadillac (Trapeze Table), Chair, and Barrels (Pilates equipment). Many people benefit from a program of both mat classes and equipment lessons. In mat class, you use your body weight as resistance. On the Reformer, Cadillac, and Chair, springs provide variable resistance. In your introductory private session, we begin with postural analysis, to identify any muscle imbalances. Then we develop a program of exercises aimed at improving posture, increasing muscle tone and flexibility, and developing coordination and balance. The Reformer, Cadillac, and Chair are ingenious pieces of resistance equipment, utilizing springs to provide variable resistance. This variable resistance is considered to be the most effective type of resistance training. As you stretch the springs, the resistance increases. Pilates exercises strengthen and stretch your muscles simultaneously, so the result is lean muscles, not bulk. At the end of your session, you feel energized, lean, and tall, without fatigue. There are over 200 exercises to keep you interested, and all are designed to work more than one muscle at a time. So unlike gym equipment in which you isolate a muscle and work it to exhaustion, the Reformer, Cadillac, and Chair work your whole body in a coordinated fashion. This is much more useful (functional fitness!) in everyday life and applicable to sports.
Best results come with practicing Pilates 2 to 3 times per week. Please contact us to schedule an appointment. We look forward to hearing from you.
